2007 Annual Report

2007 Annual Report

"U.S.Workers Do More For Less.” With this dramatic 2007 headline the Associated Press announced that workers in the United States were more productive while wages were on the decline. Both outcomes, the article went on to say, were positive and unanticipated. As it turns out, the outcomes were also not accurate. In March 2008, the Department of Labor revised unit labor costs upward, which “more than offset the productivity increases”.

For several years, the Women and Families Center, like many nonprofit businesses, faced a similar dilemma: No increase in funding. Unlike the above example, our numbers were not revised.

Inflation impacts businesses in the same ways it affects each of us individually. Consequently, in an era boasting record inflation, level funding is tantamount to a decrease in revenue. It is increasingly difficult to pay today’s bills with yesterday’s unrevised dollars. We all face the reality that at some point, resources will be insufficient; less will simply yield less.

In this economic climate, who could imagine reaching last year’s productivity rates, let alone meeting the increased needs of our clients and communities? As you will see in this report, with extraordinary skill, creativity and strong dedication to the agency’s mission, vision and values, the managers and staff of the Women and Families Center did just that:

 New program components were added.
 More clients were served.
 Outcome targets were exceeded.

Despite the challenges we’ve faced and those that may be ahead the Women and Families Center will use our resources both effectively and efficiently. We will meet the needs of our communities with integrity and commitment. This is what we do.

Onward to 2008.
