170 hours of instruction

 

Course Schedule: Daytime (12 weeks)

Week 1          

Tues-Thurs       9:00-2:00

 

Weeks 2-11                           

Mon-Thurs       12:30-3:30                  

Friday              12:00-4:00

 

Week 12                    

Tues-Thurs       9:00-2:00

 

Who’s Eligible:

Any individual whose second language is English and wants to improve English literacy and gain employment.

 

Credential(s) Earned:

English for the Workplace Certificate

 

Employment Opportunities:

Varies based on a participant’s previous work history, education and occupational skills.

 

Description:

This 170 hour training program is offered in conjunction with Meriden Adult Education. Graduates must complete 100 hours ESL instruction, 40 hours of computer training and 30 hours of career exploration and job readiness workshops. All instruction takes place at the Open DOHR training center in Meriden. Upon completion on these requirements, students earn the English for the Workplace Certificate.

 

In addition to course instruction, students attend regular one-on-one appointments with Open DOHR Employment Specialists. Weekly one-on-one appointments assist clients with managing school, work and family responsibilities while preparing for full time employment.
